SMH: CASA to widen probe into Ansett.
And so they should. If any small airline had this volume of safety issues over a month they would be shut down by CASA before someone got killed. IMHO the only reason Ansett are still in the air is that they are large enough to disrupt the entire domestic aviation system should they stop flying. That, and the potential lawsuits. Get your act together Ansett. See also SMH: Ansett grounds jet over maintenance error .
However, on a lighter note, someone has invented Virtual Bubblewrap. *p0p*

I just watched a few episodes of eskimo bob. This is yet more confirmation of the common theory that most people have too much time on their hands.

AUNIC purchased by Australian Government
Jan 22, 2001 Australia, Internet
Update: This post used to reference and article on the Sydney Morning Herald website which has since been removed.
It seems the Australian Government has purchased AUNIC from Geoff Huston. They have paid $20,000 for the database which contains records for all sorts of domain name and ip registrations. Their next step will be to try and get control of .au from Robert Elz. I wouldn’t hold my breath for this one.
I’m not sure what the government intends to do with AUNIC. With their current track record on all things internet I wouldn’t be surprised if they stuff the system up completely and introduce a ton of red tape to get anything done. After all, they gave exclusive control of a public asset (.com.au) to MelbourneIT, giving them the opportunity to make millions, while the taxpayer has missed our on any sort of benefit from the sale of Australian domain names.
Frequent Flying Cancer & Ansett cracks

Next time you’re thinking of flying.. keep in mind extremely frequent flying is reported to increase the risk of cancer and Ansett considers cracks in their aircraft a non-issue.
France implements 35 hour work week
Jan 2, 2001 Uncategorized
Over in France, companies of 20 employees or more no worker is allowed to work more than 35 hours in a week. The results of this are falling unemployment, a happier workforce, and the economy is flourishing.
I won’t get up on a soapbox, but people working excessive hours is definitely one of the major social problems in this day and age. It would be great to see the Australian government put a similar law in place to help keep the occupants of .au sane.
