Media Dome
Sep 27, 2000 Internet, Music & Entertainment
If you have a fast computer and you’re into dance music then check out the Media Dome. Its like a 3d virtual club you run on your computer where you can hang out and listen to the music while browsing the web or just watching the MPEG dancers do their stuff. Make sure you have a fast computer though, as the PII|/600 with 128MB memory I tried it on was having a real hard time.
Southpark downloads

Looks like Comedy Central is about to start offering pay-per-download copies of southpark episodes. Its nice to see a big company using their collective brain for a change. I get the impression they’ll be using the secure ASF format which no one has been able to crack (yet).

First update for a while. I’ve been busy watching the games. So far its been great. None of the expected public transport hassles have surfaced, and everyone here is having a great time.
I’m just checking the stats for my other website, and it looks like I’ve had 16,000 different people pass through over the last 12 months. I’m happy about that, although I could always use a few more

An interview with the creator of Sim City and The Sims.
The next version of the Sims sounds intresting – online Sims! It says in the interview they’re expecting to be able to get 50,000-100,000 players online. I wonder how many toombstones you could collect in your back yard…

The games are going well so far. Australia has 3 gold, and is coming second in the overall medal tally behind the USA. If you haven’t checked it out already, go have a look at Olympics.com where IBM have done some great work creating live scoreboards for most of the events which you can leave sitting around on your computer to keep track of the events in progress. They even have a little webcam window so you can see whats happening.

The Olympic Games opening ceremony is about to start.
I’ve got the telly on, and I should be able to see fireworks from my balcony if they have any. I’m all set!
Bill Gates critical of Telstra broadband pricing
Sep 13, 2000 Australia, Telstra
Bill Gates has criticised Telstra’s broadband pricing saying high prices for high-speed Internet access were holding back Australia’s online industry.
He’s right too. Prices for many Telstra services are over 10 times what is charged for similar services in other countries. It would be nice to have some real competition in the telecommunications market other than the mass of long distance companies who are just rebilling Telstra or Optus services.

From news.com, a report that Amazon.com is being shifty again. This story explains how they are offering different prices on the same items to different people. Their excuse for this practise is that they are conducting a ‘pricing test’.
